Day Nine

Today Parker had his appointment for his DSi (Digital Surface Imaging) scan. He was such a good boy. He will be getting his band in two weeks. For those of you who don't know, Parker has something called Plagiocephaly along with something else called Torticollis. Basically he had a tight muscle in his neck on one side so he wasn't able to hold his head up straight. We started noticing it around 2 months old. I was looking at all of his pictures and noticed he always had his head facing the same way in every picture. So we mentioned it to the doctor and they gave us some stretches to do. It took a few months but his neck slowly loosened up and it is no longer tight. But as a result from that he got Plagiocephaly which is also known as Flat head syndrome. Although it is becoming quite popular in babies since we now put them to sleep on their backs to lower their risk of SIDS not very many people know about it. I myself had never heard of it until he was diagnosed with it. But I had seen some babies wearing helmet looking things when we would be out somewhere and I thought they were curious but didn't know what they were for. Those little helmet things are called "bands" And they help the head to grow back to a rounder shape. So for the next 2-4 months our little man will be rock'n his band and when he's done he should be good as new! He will also be starting physical therapy on Thursday to help strengthen his neck muscles on his right side. Here are some more pictures that show the flat parts of his head better.

You can see in these pictures how his head tilts to the side from the Torticollis. You can also see how it is flat in the back, more so on one side. And then his forehead on the right side bulges out as well as his cheek. The band should correct all of this. We're excited to see the results!
