New Job

Actual Date: Saturday, March 5, 2011

So Brian and I have been kinda stressing lately because the medical bills keep rolling in.  Between Parker's head reshaping last year, his visits with various specialists, all my dental work, random ER visits in the middle of the night that lead to even more specialists and of course all the common colds and ear infections that come along with 3 youngins - it's safe to say our 'medical' portion of the budget is beyond shot.  We've been brainstorming ideas of how to get everything paid off but we hadn't found anything that would actually work.

We even talked about me going back to work but lets face it, a Preschool teacher doesn't make much. By the time we payed to put all three kids in school (even with a staff member discount) it would cost more than I would make!

But we have been faithful and praying all the way that God would provide a way for us and within about three months he totally opened the door.

One day one of the Pastor's wives from my church asked me if I would maybe be interested in working for their company.  She said she she thought of me because it's something that I could go out and do when Brian was home to watch the kids.  I told her that I would discuss it with Brian and pray about and  I would let her know.

We talked and prayed about it for about a week and it became clear that this was the answer to our prayers.  The next week I trained with one of the sweetest ladies ever and the week after that I was on my own.

These pictures are from my very first day out on my own.  Basically the job is kinda like the Welcome Wagon.  I am given the MLS listings for houses in my area and then I am loaded up with all kinds of goodies and coupons to give the people who have just moved here to help them get familiar with our area and information on the top businesses.

It's been really fun.  I was a little worried at first that people would just think that I was there to sell them something and they wouldn't invite me in but I haven't had that yet and I've done 30 houses so far!  For the most part people are so excited to get the stuff.  Seriously I had one guy tell me thank you about 5 times.  Then as I was walking down the driveway to my car after we were through, he opened the door again and yelled "Thank you!  I can't believe the kindness!"

It's been fun for me to get to meet all these new people too.  It's amazing how much you can learn about someone in 10 minutes.

I think I was made for this job.  I love organizing my route to make sure I'm not backtracking all over the neighborhood.  I'm a little OCD like that.  And if you've known me for a long time (or really if you've just met me) you know I'm not too shy.

Do any of you remember my "Stranger wall?" I truly believe whole heartily that a stranger is a friend you just haven't met  yet.

Oh and here's the best part of the whole thing...  Darla, my boss, told me to just try to get 20 baskets delivered a month because she knows I'm a busy Mom and she didn't want me to feel overwhelmed.  But my first night out I delivered all 10 of the baskets that I had in like 5 hours (hence the empty basket in the above pictures)!  Can you believe it?!  That's how I know that it's a total God thing. How could you deny that?

Oh and before I left that first day (and every day I go out since) I thank God for this job he has provided, and pray for divine appointments where I can minister to someone.  Even if we don't talk about God, a hug and a smile can go along way.  Well on my very first day I met a guy who had just moved here from Chicago with his wife and their three kids.  He was very interested in knowing about my Church (there's a flyer for it in the basket).  He asked if I knew any specifics on the church and I told him that in fact I did because I go there.  He told me he and his family would for sure be coming to check it out the very next day.  And they did!  How awesome is that?

I just feel so blessed that I get to help provide for my family right now and I get to do it through something that I love.

Aww. Thank you Linda. I'm glad you enjoy it. That's exactly what I was hoping would happen when I started it. We're so far away from any family now so this is the easiest way to keep everyone up to date on what's going on around here. It's become fun along the way though too.
